Our Story

Designing Japan
from Kyoto.

Our connection with Japan began decades ago. Over time, it became what we do — not a business chosen, but a discipline that found its shape in Kyoto.

Roots

A life lived in Japan,
shared as a practice

Our team is led by specialists with decades of on-the-ground Japan experience. What started as deep personal fascination became fluency — not just in language, but in the rhythms of daily life, the unspoken rules of hospitality, and the quiet details that make Japan singular.

We settled in Kyoto because it is the cultural heart of the country. From here, we have built relationships with ryokan owners, temple custodians, private chefs, artisan workshops, and transport operators across every prefecture. Those relationships — many of them spanning decades — are the foundation of everything we offer.

The people who design your itinerary are the same people who walk it with you.
The Company

Built to do one thing
properly

Luxury Japan Travel was founded to design and operate touring experiences that reflect Japan as we know it — not the postcard version, but the real, layered, endlessly rewarding country we have spent a lifetime exploring.

We are JATA-registered (No. 43466) and Australian-registered. We operate under Japanese tourism law and carry full liability coverage. But what sets us apart is not paperwork — it is the fact that we plan, organise, and run every tour ourselves. There is no outsourcing. There is no handoff.

The Philosophy

はんなり — refined elegance
without effort

Japan has a concept called hannari — refined elegance without effort. It describes something that appears effortless but is, in fact, the product of quiet, relentless care. That is the standard we hold ourselves to.

We also draw on ma — the Japanese principle of meaningful space. In our touring, this means building in room to breathe. Not every hour is scheduled. Not every meal is pre-arranged. The best moments in Japan often arrive unplanned, and our itineraries are designed to leave space for them.

Intimate. Considered. Perfect.
